Zwei Teams in zwei Städten mit sechs Stunden Zeitverschiebung gestalten ein Live-Set: “trans-atlantic feedback” – New York hört Leipzig, Leipzig hört New York, Cielo Club hört ASPN, ASPN hört Cielo Club.

The gallery hours of ASPN in Leipzig, Germany, will be shifted to Eastern Standard Time.
There will be a parallel event between Cielo, a night club in New York City and ASPN gallery. Over the course of 6 hours an audio stream will be established between the two locations.

In NYC, the performers listed above will use microphones placed inside Cielo – a night club, which is usually closed at this hour – and produce a mix of room sounds and processed sounds, which is streamed to Leipzig. The narrative will be centered around an empty, unused night club.

The performers in Leipzig (listed above) will simultaneously be mixing and processing their microphones, which are installed inside ASPN. The mix from Leipzig gets sent back to NYC and will be played through Cielo’s sound system. Feedback occurs because the microphones in each location, will also partly pick up the sounds from the other location playing through the speakers.

All performers will play in rotation over the course of 6 hours and an audience can witness the trans-atlantic dialogue at both locations, during this time period.

Chavez Neumann is a recent sound collaboration between 2 distinctly different artists with a shared interest in
unstable environments and situations. No information was exchanged between the 2 prior to the performance as a
method of embracing instability in practice.

Sound Artists activate the unique acoustics of Roulette’s newly renovated 1920s Art Deco theater with multichannel spacialized sound. With speakers set up throughout the entire Roulette space, visitors are invited to wander freely during the event, creating their own sonic and spacial narrative.

The group will explore collaborative strategies of composing and performing sound and visuals based on the idea of modular organization. Pieces are developed in non-hierarchical and decentralized forms where collaborators interact as equals. The modular structure is reflected less on the technical level but primarily on the level of collaborative formulation of ideas and its execution.

The architectonic and acoustic installation “Three sounds at 317 E 5th St” focuses on the perception and cognition of the specific space and its existing sounds. Three expansive cones visually amplify the three most present sounds at the Red House Gallery in the East Village, while also creating an acoustical focus. The installation adapts to the existing structure of the room, which creates a unique intervention in the environment. Daniel Neumann is presenting recordings of the three sounds, which he will use exclusively for his live performance “Three variations on three sounds at 317 E 5th St” during the opening.

In this installation of the piece _Made Space the participants are working together for the second time to perform a composition. The first installation was the result of the first time running 5-day intensive workshop in Modular Collaboration that took place at Diapason Gallery, NYC in July 2010 (with Nisi Jacobs).
Modular collaboration enacts non-hierarchical and decentralized forms of organization that put paid to the concept of the single composing genius. The collaborators interact as equals in the formulation of modules. In concerts and installations these modules are then brought together to produce unique and non-repeatable situations. Starting from thinking about the differences between places and spaces, the participants of this installation of _Made Space are working on text as a place, the narrow border between stable and unstable conditions, granules, speech synthesis, and on transient extraction as a form of de-/re-contextualizing.*
